Reflection
My overall experience with this project would be described as challenging. I say that because I struggled with ideas to expand on because it was hard to not create just a summary of the novel but actually explain more in depth of what is going on and how it is important and relatable toward my thesis. The other aspect that was challenging was finding the quotes and other information that related to what I was talking about. I would search up things that were in the book, but I could not reference back to the book to quote it because it was not easy to find that exact quote from online in the book. All in all, I believe this project has truly developed my skills as a writer because it has helped me to not become repetitive and lazy with my writing.
Rhetorical situation and Genre
For Rhetorical situation and genre, portion a, I really had to reflect on the genre that is very common but also very unique in a way because everyone has different points of views on every situation. Therefore, I wanted to talk about a book that I am very familiar with and a book that I have read multiple times. The main thing that sparked my interest was the availability that this book and genre had provided for me. For example, it was very easy to gather information from other sources which allowed me to be able to come up with a topic that I can expand on and provide a conveying argument as to how we live in a society where we just live in an equation that we can't seem to balance. One strategy that I used while writing this analysis was developing a strong thesis so that I can formulate a structure that the reader can clearly understand and have an emotional connection with to feel an empowerment that we truly need as we step forward and improve as a society.
Writing as a social Act
When composing my analysis I did not necessarily have a specific level that I wanted to target. Although when I made my first pitch proposal I stayed true to that and realized that I wanted to reach an international audience such as other countries to show them how people of my generation feel as we navigate through the hardships of gun violence, diversity between political parties, and most importantly, diversity within specific communities and organizations around America. I personally feel like without belonging to a specific group, it will permit us as a whole to come to our senses and make America the country that we all hope and wish for. I couldn't rely on my analysis to be based at a local level simply because what I stated could be controversial and I truly would not want that because that defeats the purpose of what I am trying to relay onto the bigger people who can actually make a change to our remarks.
Research
When it came time to doing research, I believe this was the most important learning outcome that I had to deal with because To Kill A Mockingbird has very symbolic and rich meaning so when it came to trying to cite a page number or a fact, it was very hard because you can easily just talk about the whole book and how what it states, creates a deeper meaning. Although with the research I did through the New York Post article, it allowed me to narrow down my questions and topics because it held statistics that I felt were very reasonable ideas to include into my main paragraph. This research allowed me to become more engaged as a writer creating a ripple effect for my audience to have an engaging piece to read. Overall, I understand that having multiple perspectives such as articles, blogs, and books has allowed me to focus my writing into one specific topic and narrow down my ideas which was very helpful in completing this assignment.
