My name is Joyce Kavuli Kamandi, a lecturer at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and a graduate student in MSc Health Profession Education at AMREF International University.
My Personal Philosophy
I believe in the potential of every student to become a transformative professional in the healthcare field, and I see it as my calling to shape them into compassionate, competent, and ethical practitioners who will impact lives and improve community well-being. My mission is to inspire a lifelong love for learning by creating a supportive and engaging environment where students feel empowered to take charge of their academic and professional journey. I believe that instruction should not only deliver content but should also nurture confidence, critical thinking, and decision-making skills that students will carry into their future roles in the health sector.I understand that students develop and learn at different rates, and that they bring with them diverse backgrounds, experiences, and learning styles. Therefore, I structure my teaching to encourage active participation, collaboration, and mutual respect. I promote learning as a shared journey, not a race, and I value cooperation over competition. I frequently use inquiry-based methods and real-life case scenarios to challenge students to think deeply and apply their knowledge meaningfully. As an educator, I believe in mastering my subject to be an effective guide. My foundation in Dental Technology and continuous engagement in health education allow me to support students in becoming analytical thinkers who can evaluate and synthesize new knowledge. I enter every classroom with an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations—committed to helping my students grow both academically and personally. To remain relevant and effective, I embrace lifelong learning. I actively seek opportunities for professional development, stay updated with evolving medical education trends, and learn from both research and classroom interactions. I am shifting from teacher-centered instruction to student-centered approaches that prioritize hands-on learning and reflective practice. Though preparing lectures, notes, and practical demonstrations takes dedication, the joy of seeing students grow and succeed is my greatest reward.Lastly, I believe in leading by example. I strive to model the values I wish to instill—honesty, empathy, respect for diversity, professionalism, and civic responsibility. By embodying these principles, I aim to influence not just the minds but also the hearts of my students, shaping them into well-rounded professionals and responsible members of society.
