This essay was written for my SPED: Introduction to Exceptional Children course at Trinity. For this essay I had to take a pre-existing lesson (which you can see if you click here) and adjust it for appropriate accommodations/modifications for a student with an IEP who is in the category of Deafness and/or hearing impaired. In the essay I explain what accommodations and modifications are made to the lesson, and how the accommodations/modifications help the student with an IEP flourish in my classroom.
This essay shows that I am able to "provide different pathways based on student needs"(3M), that I "consider the needs of each student when planning instruction" (3C), and that I "understand the appropriate role of technology, including assistive technology, to address student needs" (3E). This essay shows proof of this through my explanations of what accommodations and modifications are made for the student with an IEP, which include adjustments to how material is accessed, how students are assessed, and how students are given feedback.
By writing this essay I learned how to adjust a lesson plan to meet the needs of students in my classroom. This is an important ability to be able to do in the classroom since every student has their own unique needs. As an educator I must make sure that all of my students are given the opportunity to learn and show what they are capable of doing, in addition to being able to fulfill students' IEP/504 plans.
