This essay was written for my Edu 380: Diverse and Learner Ready Teaching course at Trinity. The essay itself is a contextual factors paper that I wrote about Thornwood High School. It discusses the community, student body that attends Thornwood, the physical factors of the school, and potential instructional implications that these factors may impose.
This essay shows that I am aware of "the spectrum of student diversity" (1A) at Thornwood High School. It also shows that I am able to "facilitate a learning community in which individual differences are respected" (1K) and that I "analyze and use student information to design instruction that meets the diverse need of students" (1H). The essay shows proof of this through my examination of the information provided by the state regarding the backgrounds of the students who attend Thornwood and my own examination and reflection of the classroom and students that I interacted with at Thornwood.
By writing this essay I learned about the diverse set of students who attend Thornwood. This information is important to know as an educator since I would have to adjust my lessons to meet the needs of the students who enter my classroom. By knowing who is in my classroom and what resources are available in the classroom and outside of it I can plan better lessons that promote student success and flourishing.
