AI-Driven Enzyme Discovery and Engineering (co-advise with Dr. Jeongchan Lee in KIST) 

Metabolic processes in all living organisms are governed by the precise actions of proteins, particularly enzymes. Our research focuses on discovering novel enzymes and engineering their functions to perform desired biochemical transformations. This includes tuning site-specificity, enhancing catalytic activity, and improving structural and thermal stability.

The rapid advancement of AI-based protein modeling and design tools, most notably AlphaFold, has opened new possibilities for understanding and engineering enzyme function. Leveraging these computational technologies, we aim to develop and refine AI-driven platforms that enable detailed exploration of enzyme mechanisms and guide the rational design of tailored biocatalysts. Through these efforts, we seek to deepen our understanding of metabolic networks and build engineered enzymes that can contribute to sustainable biomanufacturing, environmental applications, and industrial biotechnology.
