●Alumni Graduated on March 2021
●Research topic: Reducing Plastic Shopping Bag Consumption at Japanese Convenience Stores: Levy Implementation and Behavioural Intention Analysis Among University Students
●Why did you choose this seminar?: I really enjoyed the course “Environment and Society” of Professor Jones so I thought it would be great to receive more instructions from him in the seminar
●Atmosphere of the seminar: Professor Jones creates a friendly environment for both the sempai and kouhai to discuss and learn from each other. Students are welcome to express their concerns about their research to get feedback and warm encouragement.
●Comment: As a student who already went through the process of writing the thesis, I would say taking the seminar was one of the best experience of mine at APU. Two key words that I want to give to the kouhai are: 1. Perserverance: the journey might be tough sometimes, but once you keep going and overcome the obstacles of doing research, you would be really proud of yourself! 2. Time management: Never too late to start writing the thesis and finish it early before the deadline.
●College/Major: Environment & Development (APS)
●Research topic: Lessons learnt from Eco-Towns: A Comparison of Kigali (Rwanda) with Kitakyushu & Kawasaki (Japan)
●Why did you choose this seminar: to enhance my understanding of various environmental concepts, especially the impacts of development on biodiversity and people's lives. Prof Jones was my supervisor - he is highly engaged and always available to provide feedback that greatly contributed to the progress of my research.
●Atmosphere of the seminar: Despite the entire seminar class being conducted online due to COVID-19, we actively engaged in interactive activities on Zoom and fostered a collaborative learning environment. Among the cherished memories, one stands out vividly: my thesis draft presentation. During this session, the professor encouraged fellow students to review specific chapters and provide constructive feedback. Although I was initially nervous, the experience turned out to be immensely rewarding as I received valuable comments and uplifting encouragement from my peers at such a critical moment in my academic journey.
●Comment: Throughout my time at APU, I had the opportunity to attend numerous insightful lectures. However, it was through this seminar class, where I directed my research towards my home country and Japan, that I found the most captivating and rewarding experience. I highly encourage the juniors (Kohais) to join this seminar class, as it offers a unique platform for learning, skill development and personal growth. By immersing yourself in this class, you will gain a wealth of knowledge and cultivate invaluable skills.
