It was nice to meet so many parents at parent-teacher conferences. Now I can put names with faces. First quarter was incredibly busy since we were all learning so many new things. Now that we feel more comfortable with the routine and the expectations, I am confident we will be able to do even more awesome things second quarter. Right now we're working on one-pagers and storyboards about Flowers for Algernon. The creativity is amazing. I will hand out the book Night by Elie Wiesel so students can start reading it over Thanksgiving break. Elie Wiesel was a prisoner in Auschwitz-Birkenau. He managed to live through the ordeal and wrote a book about his experiences. It is difficult to read about some of the things that happened in the death camps, however, it is necessary so we don't repeat the past.
