I have been teaching for a long time, and I've always thought that students felt trapped in a normal school desk. Not all people learn when sitting in a desk, and some people don't like to work at a desk. Therefore, I'm trying flexible seating in my classroom. I spent the summer looking for used furniture, pillows and lamps that would make my classroom cozier. (The word in Danish is "hyggeligt" and it's become a new word in English linked to a a new movement. I used to live in Denmark, so it resonated with me. I just read an article on it. http://www.visitdenmark.com/hygge-denmark-coziness ) We have a very cozy classroom - 209. Please stop by if you can. We are still navigating the noise level since it's very easy to want to talk to friends and not work. That will improve with time. I plan to continue looking for things to make my room a place students want to come.
