Anki Add-ons

Anki is great but pretty barebone by itself, so you can enhance your experience with addons. This is only a presentation of some addons not a tutorial on how to use them, see their official page for that.

  • The official webpage is here.

  • There is number on each page. Copy that number. Go to Anki. Tools / Add-ons / Get Add-ons / Type or paste the number. That will install the addon automatically. Close and relaunch Anki for the add-on to take effect.

  • Some addons are not updated and won't work with the new versions of Anki.

  • This only some of the addons that I use personaly, there are a lot more that could be game changer for you. I don't use Anki Connect at all for example, and it's the most downloaded addon. So take a look and see if there's something for you.

  • Click on the titles, they're hyperlings to the addon page.

MAKE ANKI EASIER

I mentionned in the tutorial how useful it was to get some feedback about your stats so you can optimize your time. Anki simulator will let you plan your settings ahead.

If you're not using premade decks, and like to create cards on the fly, there's a good chance you'll want a combo of Yomichan / Rikaichamp with Anki connect.

You can import easily, by surfing the web, watching videos with voracious, playing games with games2text...

If you like stats like me, you can see a lot of data on your decks and cards on the main window. It's great to have a visual representation of your progress for each deck.

It's a bit tricky to configure though.

I used to check if I used all the deck when making my core2K deck.

MAKE REVIEWS EASIER

AwesomeTTS

You know what makes reviews easier ? Sound. Now, I think it's best to only use native audio, hence subs2srs decks.

But I do like to use this addon to add sound to my individual words.

Use this API key, for the Google Cloud Text-Speech, and follow the rest of the set up : AIzaSyBm7NinfOuybtq-WWkcFMoiHHxMz60qxj0

More Overview Stats

Just a simple addon that let's you know your to do list for the day and the next.

If you like to hide fields on the cards as hints, the hint hotkey will be useful for you, so you don't have to click on it everytime.

Edit Field During Reviews

I used it mostly to write my own stories in my kanji deck, but you can use it for any deck, on any card, on any field.

Beware that it create problem with others addons, like Migaku Japanese.

Button Colours

Purely cosmetic, but it's good cosmetic.

MAKE BROWSING EASIER

This addon let's you create columns in the browser mode, with can be very helpful, especially when you're using Morphman and you're looking for a good card.

Still in the browser, this will let you customize the sidebar. It's usefull you have lots of decks, note types and filters. You can collapse them to keep things organized.

Last thing for the browser, this one adds shortcut for everything, which makes any editing way faster.

MAKE JAPANESE EASIER

If you're studying japanese, you need this. It makes everything else works.

Make sure the note you use has "Japanese" in the name.

To generate readings, you need two fields called Expression and Reading. Make sure the Reading field is empty, and you can bulk add all the Kanji readings (furigana) in the browser mode. BUT, the Migaku Japanese addon is better for creating readings.

Like mentionned Migaku Japanese can create a lot of things, including the readings with better accuracy than "japanese support" and whatever the names of the fields are.

If you're into pitch accent, then you'll need this addon.

This one works great with Morphman.

Morphman will populate can populate a field with that one word from that sentence you don't know.

Migaku Dictionary can populate any field with the definition of that word. You can bulk add them in the browser or one by one as you do reviews with a shortcut.

Morphman

Morphman will make sure you can focus on the best cards. It can order cards with only unknown word, create frequency lists based on an anime you want to study so you can priotize theses words, count the words you know, count how many word you need to study to understand an anime, and so much more.

So check the next page for the tutorial.
