Expectations & Policies

Proper work out attire:

  • Each wrestler will be issued two T-shirts and two mesh shorts to be worn at practice. Each day after practice the wrestlers will pick up a clean practice uniform and deposit the dirty uniform in the bin to be washed. Extra uniforms can be purchased for $10 each item while supplies last.

  • Socks must be white or black. Always have several pairs of clean socks.

  • Head gear must be worn for both practice and matches. Your head gear should be cleaned with rubbing alcohol at least twice a week. Head gears can be purchased from Coach Hutchison for $50. *We want you to look sharp and look like a team!*

Attendance:

  • Every wrestler is expected to be on time and attend every practice - including holidays. We will either practice or have matches for 6 days of the week unless otherwise specified. Arriving 15 minutes earlier than the scheduled time for practice will allow each wrestler time to properly stretch and take care of any necessary paper work. On match day, the schedule will be posted outside of the mat room.

  • Practices run between 1 ½ and 2 hours in length. Generally, practices will shorten as the season progresses. It is recommended that the wrestler call for his ride before showering so he will be ready to go when you arrive. A remind will also be sent out when practice is over

  • During the holidays, practices will be from 9am until 1pm unless otherwise specified.

  • During teacher workdays, practices will be at normal time unless otherwise specified.

Missed Practices:

  • If a wrestler stays after school with a teacher and will be late to practice, they should bring a signed note from that teacher with the time he arrived for help and the time he left the class room. It would be wise to let Coach Hutchison know ahead of time! The time missed from practice will be excused and must be made up before the next wrestling match in order to compete. If you are planning a dentist and/or doctor appointment between November and February please keep this in mind when scheduling. Make up time is not a punishment! It is for conditioning, instructional and safety purposes.

  • If you know of any possible conflicts that could arise, I expect to be notified well in advance. This will help minimize the impact on our team. We cannot have wrestlers in and out of the lineup because of attendance issues. We want to encourage our wrestlers to be responsible and communicate. Please use them as the primary vehicle for communicating. It is also wise to email as a backup if necessary (sthutchison@fcps.edu)

  • If a wrestler misses practice without a valid reason (Coach’s discretion) then he will make up in the morning practice (6am). It will be the coach’s decision on when that wrestler is allowed to compete again.

  • If a wrestler is late to practice then the amount of time he was late will be doubled and that will be the make-up time.

  • If the wrestler misses practice without a valid excuse, he/she will be subjected to a tiered discipline system. 1st unexcused absence = make up practice; 2nd unexcused absence = wrestler will miss 1 event; 3rd unexcused = the wrestler may be excused from the team.

Mat Room Condition:

  • The mat room is our place of business! It needs to be kept safe and clean. Each wrestler should take pride in keeping the room clean and free of excess clothing, equipment, water bottles and litter. Street shoes, food and other items that can lead to the development of bacteria, should be kept out of the room at all times.

  • Team members and coaches will not tolerate others leaving unnecessary items in the room. This is important for keeping the wrestlers free from MRSA, ringworm, staph infections and other skin conditions which might prevent them from practicing or competing with the team.

  • Any wrestler(s) who consistently allow or leave prohibited items in the room may be asked to perform one or several of the following duties: cleaning the mats, cleaning the locker room, cleaning up the bleachers after a match, carrying team equipment or writing a paper - theme or subject to be determined by the coach.
