The James Madison Wrestling program is committed to making champions. Our goal is for our student athletes to achieve their full potential on the mat, in the classroom, and in life. Wrestlers are students first and athletes second, and they are expected to be successful in both. We believe a Champion is one who lives by high ideals, knows how to set realistic goals, and dedicates themselves to achieving those goals.
Our goal as a program is to make the wrestling experience enjoyable, educational, and enriching. Wrestlers in this program must develop technique, strength, conditioning, mental toughness, and team morale to become champions. We strongly believe there are no shortcuts to success. In keeping with this philosophy, we will expect our athletes, coaches, and managers to understand they represent our program and school, and to behave accordingly always.
There is more to life than wrestling, but the lessons we learn through wrestling last a lifetime: cultivating a strong work ethic, establishing and working toward goals, and dealing with adversity are all things our student-athletes will do. They have very demanding schedules, and are expected to successfully balance athletics and academics. Wrestling teaches us to persevere through set-backs and adversity to overcome difficult obstacles. We do not accept giving up. We believe that good things happen to those who work hard.
We always work with our student-athletes to focus on putting their best foot forward. We push ourselves to improve each day at everything we do. We seek out the best competition, the best workout partners, and the best techniques to be successful. We will not waver in our efforts to sustain a quality program that produces great student-athletes.
