The Agrawal Residence in Madhya Pradesh is a 10,000-square-foot bungalow designed to prove that architecture can improve life. It combines 100% Vastu compliance with solar passive design to create a sanctuary for its occupants.
The Vision: A Breathable Home
The house is built for flexibility.
While it supports air-conditioning, the design prioritizes natural ventilation and daylight.
Large courtyards, shaded verandahs, and terraces encourage outdoor living.
When the weather is right, the entire home opens up to breathe.
The Innovation: Earth Air Tunnel (EAT)
A primary sustainable feature is the Earth Air Tunnel (EAT). This passive cooling system uses the earth’s natural temperature to treat incoming air.
The Impact:
Summer Performance: The system lowers outdoor temperatures by approximately 9°C before air enters the home. (See Images)
Energy Efficiency: By pre-cooling the air, the system significantly reduces the need for mechanical cooling.
Holistic Sustainability
The design incorporates several features to reduce its environmental footprint:
Energy: Integrated photovoltaic (solar) systems.
Water: Rainwater harvesting and native landscaping that requires less irrigation.
Architecture: Solar passive layout to minimize heat gain.
The Result: Architecture as Medicine
The most significant outcome of the project is the physical well-being of the residents. The combination of Vastu principles and passive design has fundamentally changed the client's health.
