During my substitute teaching experience, I designed and implemented engaging, culturally responsive lessons that supported both classroom and school-wide learning. One example was a Chinese New Year lesson created for a fourth-grade class. This lesson introduced students to the cultural significance, traditions, and symbols of the holiday, while integrating literacy and social studies standards. Students participated in interactive activities such as reading informational texts, discussing key vocabulary, and completing hands-on projects that reinforced their understanding of the holiday’s importance.
In addition to classroom instruction, I also developed and delivered a school-wide Chinese New Year lesson to promote cultural awareness and community engagement. This lesson was adapted to be accessible across multiple grade levels, ensuring all students could participate meaningfully. It incorporated visuals, storytelling, and interactive elements to maintain student engagement while fostering respect for cultural diversity.
