What is Financial Aid?
Financial Aid (as a general term college/trade school wise) is funding provided and used towards higher education.
What Are The Different Types of Financial Aid?
Scholarships/Grants: "Free Money" awarded (check out Scholarships and MI Grants/Scholarships)
Work-Study: Part-time jobs (often on campus) that allow students to work and earn money to help pay for educational expenses.
***Still have to apply for the job, and the student gets paid in the same manner as a job, so it typically isn't applicable to 1st Year Semester 1***
Loans: Borrowed money that must be paid back with interest after graduation (Check out Loans)
Free Application for Federal Student Aid
The FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) helps with eligibility towards multiple financial aid pieces in the college/trade school going process, including proof towards scholarships based on financial need as well as eligibility for certain loan types/amounts. (Check out FAFSA)
CSS Profile
Some extremely competitive colleges require the submission of a CSS Profile (University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Hillsdale College, and Adrian College (MI) are the 3 in Michigan): https://cssprofile.collegeboard.org/
