As part of my graduate assistantship in the Center for Student Success (CFSS) at UNC, I developed leadership training curricula for two peer mentoring programs on campus. Above is the training for the HeelGuides, our program for first-generation Tarheels.
I created nine modules for incoming peer mentors to complete the summer before their first-year mentees joined campus. Modules included Harm Reduction and Navigating the First Semester, The World and My Place in It, and Strategic Planning and Personal Development.
The training served to train mentors on how to have difficult conversations with their mentees, topics to anticipate throughout the school year, as well as personal and professional development. Mentors were asked to reflect on their experience in each module on a corresponding discussion board.
