Below are a few evidence based practices which I feel are important to creating a productive classroom.
Backwards planning- Start with the end goal first
Well thought out lessons
Be proactive- Set up for the next activity while students are busy with the current activity- transition with little to no downtime
Check for understanding often and in a variety of ways
Offer positive and timely feedback
Allow students to be a part of their learning progress.
Use modeling to show students desired behavior
Teacher clarity- Clearly state learning targets (goal)
Keep lesson plans- Especially in the first few years of teaching
Use research based evidence such as those from educational researcher Robert Marzano and Benjamin Bloom.
