Summer Workouts

This being a speciality page opened up some freedom to design, so I took the photo of Vershon doing pushups, made it black and white, and enlarged it since it had plenty of dead space to place duotone cutouts on so they would pop. I layered each summer sport with two cutouts and assigned each their own duotone to align them with a black box of quotes telling their stories. I wanted each set of sport's cutouts to interact which each other, so I had them touch one another slightly (like football and cheer) or had them interact with the other sport's captions (the quote from Madelynn Biner's text wrapping around the golf club). I noticed that the cheer cutout would nicely interact with the headline using the layered typography. I added a pull quote that cut into the top of the black and white photo using a white box so that it could fit in that space but also stand out among the black boxes. Finally, I left room for a small mod and incorporated a big pink box to layer behind everything with a black bar with a drop shadow anchoring the dominant photo.
