If You're Wondering What It'd Be Like Cover

While designing this cover, I knew I was setting all of the graphic elements we would incorporate into our book to develop our theme, "If You're Wondering What It'd Be Like." I put the dominant photo in black and white because the "If You're Wondering" part of of our theme statement (in the small gray box) sat nicely on the dead space in the top left of the photo, while the partial cutout was able to interact with the words in the second half of the statement. I wanted to introduce the layered typography coming behind and in front of subjects as I thought it put a nice emphasis on the words and the subject. With the dominant photo being black and white, I was able to turn the other two photos into different colored duotones and have them overlap with a 10 point white outline, so that readers would see that each photo has it's own significance to representing an important moment. I chose to introduce our pullout quote style with the student's name in a black box and the quote under it to get some coverage on the cover. I also introduced our All-Coverage Device on the back of the cover in the top left corner with a black line that had a drop shadow because I had an idea of having it connect to our folios inside of the book in that specific spot. I wanted to add more color so I chose pink with a black bar (also with a drop shadow) with our school information because they not only complimented the duotones and black and white photo, but it was two colors that matched the serious yet loud tone we wanted to convey.
