The Common Core State Standards are being used in most of the United States (or provide the basis for state standards) to provide schools with a framework for preparing students for college and the workforce. Standards have been developed for grades K - 12 and the standards for "Speaking and Listening" and "Language" can be used as a framework for skill-based assessment of communication skills of students at their current grade levels, and for developing IEP goals and objectives and monitoring progress for students receiving speech and language therapy services.
