MLIS Portfolio
After more than a decade in corporate marketing, I made the decision to move into education, a change I had been considering for years. Once I began working directly with students and faculty as a writing coach at a community college, my direction became clear. I discovered that the work I found most meaningful was helping learners build confidence, develop skills, and make sense of information.
I entered the MLIS program at UNC Greensboro to become a school librarian. My background in writing support continues to influence how I approach instruction. I focus on helping students feel capable, providing practical strategies, and guiding them as they strengthen their critical thinking.
What draws me most to school librarianship is the chance to work closely with teachers, build meaningful collections, and create a library space where all students feel welcome. I’m also deeply committed to digital literacy and helping students navigate information thoughtfully in an increasingly complex digital environment.
This portfolio showcases my learning and growth in the MLIS program at UNCG. It provides evidence of meeting the program’s professional learning outcomes as well as the standards set forth by the American Association of School Librarians. The work included here reflects my belief that the school librarian plays a vital role in student learning by helping students build curiosity and the ability to engage with information effectively.
