An instructor-led review training session that aims to align staff company-wide on the basics of being a graduation photographer.
Roles: Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Visual Design
Tools: Canva, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Photoshop
Client: GradPics
Overview
The client was frustrated by using out of date and poorly constructed training slides. They found that returning photographers were not being trained consistently and company performance was suffering. The company sought to address these challenges by redesigning its training materials to optimize their review training with veteran photographers.
To address this objective, I designed a course that succinctly reviews the basics of the company’s strategies and tests the employees’ knowledge of these strategies.
Process
GradPics provided their past training slides. I reviewed the training slides and met with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in management as well as experienced photographers. After my conversation with the SMEs, I found that a lack of communication and a lack of emphasis on three basic operational tactics were driving the company’s frustration.
Once I had a clear understanding of the objectives, I created a storyboard that outlined the pain points the company needed to have reinforced with their staff. I then wrote a script, ensuring clarity, engagement, and alignment with learning objectives. I provided the script and storyboard to the client for review before proceeding.
GradPics desired to have a course that would be led by a lead photographer in person as well as a course that photographers not in attendance could review on their own. With this duality in mind, I created an eLearning experience in Adobe Captivate. To assess the review learning, an end-of-course assessment was developed for all participants, no matter the location.
The course was taken to Spring Veteran Review Training and was facilitated by lead photographers. Post-training assessments confirmed the streamlined and focused review session helped provide returning photographers clarity on the company’s objectives.
