Putting It All Together

Here is a game for teaching simple machines in a way that students can participate hands on! It allows students to experiment in order to create simple machines that will really work.

This is an episode of Bill Nye The Science Guy explaining simple machines and their uses! This video is equipped with an online transcript that can be either printed for students or copied and pasted into a GoogleDoc and read to the student with a google chrome extension (or both)!

This is a great resources for all things simple machines! It has tabs for facts, links, games, resources, and videos! It also includes a glossary. I would suggest using a Google chrome tool to have this site read aloud because it does not seem to have an option for text to audio. The text cannot be manipulated either, unfortunately. However, this can also be copied and pasted into a google doc!

Here is a PDF all about simple and complex machines! It lists vocabulary and gives multiple examples! This text can be printed, downloaded, and zoomed.

This is a book for grades 3-5 that gives directions on how to make simple machines! This would be a great resource for a hands on lesson for making simple machines in the classroom. This link it to the scholastic review.
