Educational technology is any piece of equipment that can be used as a tool for instruction. Today, we associate the word "technology" solely with computers and digital machines, however, educational technology could be anything as simple as paper and pencils or as complex as computers, printers, etc... These technologies help students by improving educational outcomes. However, these technologies do not always have to be tangible-they can be practices as well.
ISTE is the International Society of Technology Education. It sets the national standards for teachers and students in technology. Their standards are targeted for students who learn in our technology saturated society. They utilize technology to improve student learning with the goal of helping students to thrive and become lifelong learners. Our ever-changing technology is seen as an educational vehicle to aid in student achievement and success. ISTE hopes for education to be full of exploration for learners. They do this by promoting student-driven education in the classroom.
