Nonfiction Podcasts

With well over 800,000 podcasts available, there is likely an episode that connects to nearly any topic you teach!  What a gift, to provide access to a world of endless interests! Consider using episodes to help introduce a unit and build background knowledge.

I've worked with with teachers who build a list of 5-10 episodes that fit in a unit and students are able to listen at their own pace to broaden their perspective on the content.  I've also had teachers curate a list on many different topics over the course of a semester and their students are able to listen to any of them, whether they relate to a current unit or not. I love this because it supports learning and comprehension by (1) giving students access to a wide variety of background knowledge, (2) exposing students to rich, academic vocabulary and (3) encouraging a love of learning!
