Finding Podcasts

While the sheer quantity of podcasts available for consumption is wonderful, it also can be overwhelming. I mean, how can one possibly sift through over 800,000 podcasts and 58,000,000 (not a typo 🤯) to find what they need? Many podcast services provide a search feature that is pretty solid, but I prefer a podcast search engine called, Listen Notes. With Listen Notes, I can search and filter by genre, interest, time, language and several other filters to really drill down to what I'm looking for. I can also create clips for targeted listening, high-speed preview episodes, and collaborate on curated playlists that can then be shared with students!

Here, I offer a tutorial on some of Listen Notes's features and suggest some ways to curate a list for your classroom.

Example Podcast List of Shows for Science Unit

This is an example of a curated list for a science unit, created by a teacher for her 1st grade classroom. She found 8 episodes that connect to plants and animals to help build background knowledge, and even provided a few fiction episodes that share the same theme!
