School counselors that work with adolescents in the high school years are particularly interested in assessing student career interest and promoting career exploration. For students that may not see a path to college, such as students with poorer grades, academic concerns, developmental challenges, or who have a lack of motivation, counselors may be inclined to have conversations about career exploration post graduation from high school. Counselors have various interest, ability/skill, and value assessments available to them in order guide students toward potential career paths. Three, free and short inventories available to counselors and their students are the O*Net Interest Profiler at My Next Move, the Truity Holland Code Career Test, and the Advance CTE Career Clusters Interest Survey. Each one provides a unique listing of either specific skill sets, occupations/industries, or personal/professional characteristics for students to discuss with their counselors and/or families.
Based on a student's responses on this pen-to-paper assessment to questions about activities, personal qualities, and subjects, this survey proposes 16 career clusters in which students could fall within
This 20-minute online career assessment is designed to provide students with an idea of their primary career interest area using the Holland Codes; students will get to read about their primary career interest area as well as where they fall within the other 5 career areas
