The assertion that there is an increasing demand for qualified, culturally-sensitive, and empathetic professional School Counselors should be treated as more than a modern-day maxim or cliché. Rather, the statement grows out of a conviction that an individual develops after a brief conversation with any number of culturally diverse students within the Department of Education. The complexity of issues surrounding the current generation of students mixed in with the often unavailability or inaccessibility to resources and interventions can lead to increased feelings of frustration and isolation. As if societal issues were not enough for youth today, consider the lifespan challenges for adolescents alone. Not only are teens experiencing rapid physical, bodily changes, but are also dealing with psychological changes such as fluctuating emotions and unending thoughts about self and life. In addition, teens have the added pressure of developing an identity in the crucible of public opinion by their peers.
Jeffery Moss is one such professional that has answered the call to serving today’s youth in the role of a School Counselor. This section of the website is designed to be a self-navigating, online portfolio of professional experiences, graduate level coursework, and research-based, developmentally appropriate activities, assessments, and interventions. Exhibitions will extend beyond the theoretical to include projects, activities, and interventions used with high-school aged students during practicum and work-related experiences. Jeffery has the unique advantage of applying his business, leadership, management consulting, and organizational education and his current work within the public school system. This synergy of knowledge, skills, and abilities has led to increased personal insight and desire to directly impact the field of School Counseling. Jeffery aims to continue his pursuit of excellence beyond the Master’s level and has his sights set on enrolling in a clinical community psychology doctoral program.
