Jean Moelter grew up in suburban Los Angeles, the youngest of eight children begat by Paul A. Helmick, a filmmaker, and Helen Williams Helmick, a homemaker. She attended twelve years of Catholic school, providing her with solid grammar skills and material for dozens of tragicomic stories.
In 1982, Jean graduated from UCLA with a degree in Sociology. She was a frazzled middle school teacher for several years before becoming an anxious stay-at-home mom.
She is currently the host of a radio show called Artsy People and an active member of SLO NightWriters. She often performs her work on local stages and is usually pretty funny. Her one-woman show Holy Crap! was produced at San Luis Obispo Little Theatre in 2015. Her hobbies include reading, gardening, and dancing wildly in public.
Jean lives in San Luis Obispo, CA, with her exemplary husband Matt, a physics professor. They have two handsome and brilliant sons.
