As a former MS Windows user, I enjoyed the 'point & click' usage of the 'Windows desktop'. Unfortunately, there were many problems with using Windows. I felt restricted by the changes that Microsoft kept imposing on me with all the so-called upgrades 8, 8.1, 10, 11 etc.
I wanted to find a Desktop and Operating System that let me work my way. Luckily I found GNU/Linux. When I researched the many versions of Linux, I was overwhelmed by all the different 'Distros'.
The good thing is nowadays it’s easy to try a Distro with a USB Thumb Drive without affecting your current desktop. That’s what I did. I found that I could duplicate all my programs that I used in Windows on a Linux Desktop. Best of all, every item is free to use and free of cost.
I also discovered that the real difference from all the Distros was the DESKTOP. All Distros have the same Linux (Kernel) underneath the Desktop, and you can choose the one that suits the way you work.
Most of the time when someone asks an Experienced Linux user, the person will tell them about their personal favorite Distribution. There are dozens of ‘Linuxes’ to choose from. The one they recommend may not be the best choice for your needs.
Here’s a questionnaire to help you decide. And a Good Video to watch.
