When you use a Linux Desktop your choice of software or Apps are handled in a very different way. Most of the basic software that you may use is 'pre-installed' when your Linux is installed onto your computer. To add more Apps (GNU/Linux also calls them 'Packages'), they are stored in a online place called a 'Repository'. You can access this with a bulit in app, called Software Manager. Similar to the 'App Store' on Apple or Google Play in Android. There are many apps that simulate what you find on Apple or Windows.
One of the great advantages of a Linux Desktop, is the majority of the Apps you normally need/use are pre-installed for you. No need to pay extra for full software, plus even more in the Repository. Again there is no cost for anything. It's what makes OPEN Source good for the consumer.
