I had to search the news for relevant information and cybersecurity articles for this project, and then evaluate my sources. I completed cybersecurity training and received a certificate before starting the project.
This project taught me a lot of things, like how frequently phones can be hacked and how people can use AI to alter your face for their purposes. I was surprised to see that most of the cases I found weren't that old; I hadn't anticipated seeing so many. I gained knowledge about a wide variety of ransomware attacks and hacker techniques from the training. I even got certified after finishing the course with perfect accuracy.
Deepfake technology is used by hackers to produce media content that looks realistic. Criminals then take advantage of our trust in media by using deepfakes to propagate false information, steal money, and damage reputations. In a recent 2024 incident that the Hong Kong police reported, an employee's deceit caused the company to lose $25 million as the employee fell for deepfake impersonations of his coworkers. Investing heavily in a comprehensive security system that is supplied with threat detection is one way we may be able to effectively defend against cyberattacks and have two-step authentications for our media accounts.
Android device owners have been made aware of the potential for malware to take control of their phones and steal bank account information. The new malware, known as Brokewell, reportedly poses as a Chrome update.
Once someone downloads it, hackers might be able to access that person's private data. Android device owners should be aware that they might be affected, download updates from reliable sources only, and confirm the request with the person asking to download.
