My first major horn quartet, it was written for a good friend's senior recital and dedicated to our horn professor. You can find it on Audio here, or a video of that performance below. It is a grade 4 piece and is approximately 6 minutes long and makes for a good piece for high schoolers, collegiate players, or even professional groups.
This piece is available through JW Pepper! Purchase today in print or digitally for the price of $30!
Here are program notes about the piece:
Originally written for a senior recital, “To Higher Peaks” strives to live up to the beauty of horn writing and lives as a testament to the best of what the horn has to offer. The composer was artistically inspired by the Rocky Mountains and the development matches the climb it takes to scale one. Written at a level for all skill sets and ages, “To Higher Peaks” hopes to push performers to their next level of playing and it is dedicated to a teacher who does just that.
A second version of this piece was written for brass quintet at the behest of a good friend. The same things apply as to that above with all the ranges being reasonable for high school to professional players. You can find it on Audio here as the first reading of the piece by a student brass quintet at Iowa State.
