Research Areas

My primary research area is public economics, with an emphasis on collective provision in the United States, particularly in urban and regional settings. I study how government and voluntary organizations allocate resources, facilitate networks, respond to local conditions, and shape economic development across cities and regions. A large share of my work sits at an intersection of public economics and urban economics. Public spending, political participation, urban policy, and economic development are all shaped through informal institutions and social arrangements that are often surprising or unique. My research is really just about exploring these oddities to understand local economies better through that lens.
