My Skins are CSL (Club Spec Legacy) laser cut aluminum, they are screwed into the frame with philips head wood screws. This is screen accurate due to some close up screen grabs from the movies.
My frame is a senna style wood frame. This frame is CSL spec and CNC cut. I filled and painted the frame to look less like wood and more like a skeleton of a droid. It worked I commonly hear people that walk by him say "look its a plastic frame"
I made the skirt out of wood. I wanted something sturdy that could hold R2 up should I need to take his legs off for transport (Which almost never happens with the Droid car seat/ Droid sled I use).
My Body details are 3D printed in PETG filament. Most of them were printed on my FT-5 printer
My legs are CNC cut wood and MDF horse shoes glued on to them. They are attached to the body with my own version of the gas pipe method. this allows me to have a more open frame for my battery box.
The majority of my leg greeblies are 3D printed. My booster covers are printed in one piece and stuck on using dual lock Velcro, this allows me to change the appearance of the droid and they will come off it they run into something preventing damage to anything that is not mine.
My foot shells are 3D printed on my FT-5 3D printer. I was able to fit them on in 2 prints for each outer and the center shell fit perfectly without needing to be cut into 2 prints.
My original foot drives were custom designed by me. I had made the design as compact as possible using Razor E100 scooter motors and wheels. I was unable to fit those in the foot shells I printed. I then switched to the Scavenger drives. these allow for more future upgrades I intend to apply to R2.
A key part of droid building is bringing them places. This can be difficult due to the weight of a droid and the car they own. In my family we all have larger cars that R2 can fit in some way. I recommend a van, SUV, or a truck. Styrene Droids that weigh under 100 pounds are fairly easy to get in the car but for a wood hybrid builder and all aluminium builders it can be difficult. I use a Droid Sled (aka droid car seat) which allows me and one other helper to get him in and out of the back of my truck.
