Uniform Care and Tips

Here are some important DO’S and DON’TS for wearing your uniform:

  • DO you know your marching uniform is worth over $500.00? Be respectful of it, and don't eat while wearing it, please.

  • DO wear high solid black socks (at least mid-shin in height and no colored logos).

  • DO wear your band show shirt t-shirt on performance days.

  • DO remember that all marchers change into their uniforms together (men and women) prior to performances. Because of this, it is very important that you arrive at call time wearing your black athletic shorts and band t-shirt under your street clothes. Parent volunteers will be in the dressing room to assist with dressing.

  • DON’T touch your plume with bare hands. Plumes will be handed out and collected by a parent volunteer (wearing gloves) immediately prior to taking the field, and immediately after leaving the field.

  • DO tie long hair into a bun or ponytail and fit it securely under the shako. Bring extra hair bands and bobby pins and allow extra time before each performance.

  • DO take your time when storing your uniform in the garment bag.

  • DO hang your uniform properly on the racks after performances. Fold pants along the crease before placing on one hanger. Hang your uniform shirt and jacket over another hanger and zip them up.

  • DO store the following items in your black garment bag pouches after changing out after every performance:

· Shoes

· Black socks

· Gloves

· Hair ties

· Gauntlets

· Shako Wrap

  • DON’T eat while wearing your uniform. Let’s keep them looking good as long as we can!

  • DO store your Shako and shoes in your cubby and hang garment bag below when returning to school and the Uniform Room.

  • DO feel free to contact your parent uniform volunteers with any questions or concerns.

  • DO clean and store your show shirt, gloves, socks, and shoes after each performance.

Hair should be up inside the Shako and off the neck.

Black athletic shorts or solid black leggings to be worn under uniform.

Crew length socks. No ankles showing.

HAIR- Long Hair

Hair should be worn in a top knot/ballerina bun on TOP of the head. This is so hair can fit inside of the shako.

SHORTS

Black athletic shorts are to be worn under the black marching bibbers – These are the LONGER athletic shorts that are available at both Wal-Mart and Target (see below) and cost less than 10 dollars. They need to fall to at LEAST mid-thigh. EVERYONE – PLEASE NO SHORT SHORTS! You may need to purchase the athletic shorts that are in the men’s department to get the proper length. They need to be solid black without large logos on them. Full length solid black leggings are also acceptable.

SOCKS

Crew Length Socks – These are the LONGER socks. NO ankle socks please. All members have been given one pair. If needed, socks are available to purchase for $3 if they are forgotten on performance days (football games and competitions).

GLOVES

All instrumentalists, except for percussion and pit members, wear black gloves during performances. Horns and woodwinds wear full-fingered gloves, clarinets and piccolos wear fingerless gloves, and percussion and pit members do NOT wear any gloves. Drum Majors wear white gloves. All members were given one pair. If needed, gloves are available to purchase for $3 if they are forgotten on performance days (football games and competitions)
