This year, the CPL program required me to complete the Sexual Abuse Prevention Program. Included are my certificates of completion
Although this program was emotionally heavy to complete, I recognize the importance of being able to take proactive approaches when children are at risk of sexual abuse. Participating in this learning experience allowed me to recognize my own biases and presumptions because I did not think childhood sexual abuse could be so relevant to children who are not teenagers and younger than 10 years old. Before this program, I truly believed childhood sexual abuse was more of a concern when working with teenagers, and I now recognize that the school-age children I work with are at risk of sexual abuse, grooming, and predators. This course was helpful because now I know I can support resilience and healing by taking a proactive approach and connecting with administrative staff and Children's Aid Services if required.
