Call for Special Sessions and Workshops:

IWSDS 2023 invites proposals for Workshops and Special Sessions in any topic related to the main conference theme: "Diversity in Dialogue Systems" (DiDS).

Examples of diversity-related topics include but are not limited to: diversity in languages spoken, diversity in domain/task being performed (e.g., range of tasks, dialogue systems that engage in multiple tasks), diversity in user population, diversity in training data (e.g., ethics/bias considerations), diversity in methods/architectures used for dialogue system development (e.g., end-to-end vs. module-based), diversity in dialogue system evaluation methodologies.

IWSDS 2023 will be held February 21-24, 2023 in Los Angeles, USA at the University of Southern California Institute for Creative Technologies. IWSDS 2023 will be a primarily in person event with a hybrid component for those who cannot travel to Los Angeles and wish to attend virtually.

Authors are requested to submit PDF files (maximum three pages) of their proposal to iwsds2023@gmail.com.

The proposal must indicate:

1. Whether the proposal is for a workshop or for a special session:

   • • Workshops are half day events collocated either before or after the IWSDS 2023 main program. Registration to workshops is not included with IWSDS registration. Participants only interested in attending the workshops do not need to register for IWSDS.

     • Special sessions are 90-minute sessions that are part of the IWSDS main program. Registration to special sessions is included with IWSDS registration.

2. Workshop / Special Session title.

3. Name, affiliation, e-mail of the organizers.

4. A description of the workshop / Special Session title including:

   • • objectives;

     • topics of interest;

     • justification;

     • expected number of submissions;

     • tentative program.

5. Tentative program committee members (only for workshop proposals).

6. Special audio-visual, internet, computer or equipment requirements in case of a non-virtual event.

7. Whether the workshop / special session has been run before:

   • • where and when;

     • number of participants in the previous event.

8. Any additional information that might be relevant for the proposal evaluation.

Important Notice:

1. Based on the volume of submissions and other logistic constraints, accepted workshops can be converted into special sessions or vice versa.

2.  IWSDS 2023 organization will cover expenses related to venue, audio-visual equipment, and coffee breaks for workshops and special sessions. IWSDS 2023 organization cannot provide any additional financial support to workshop and special session organizers.

Paper title, author, and abstract submission deadline: October 28, 2022 - extended to November 1, 2022

(Title, authors, and abstract cannot be changed after November 1, PDF can be updated until November 8)

Paper (PDF) update deadline: November 4, 2022 - extended to November 8, 2022

Author notifications: December 16, 2022

Camera ready papers due: January 20, 2023 - extended to January 30, 2023
