(In less than 50 minutes YOU can perform a physical description, stream flow analysis and chemical profile of YOUR local stream site!)
Scheduled Chapter Save Our Streams Dates and Location
Saturday, 12 October 2019 - 9am to 10:30am -- Meet at Lois Green Conservation Park near Snouffer School Road
WELCOME to the LGS Chapter Save Our Streams (SOS) page!
We hope you will join us in monitoring a stream site on the Cabin Branch, or a local stream site of YOUR choosing! The Chapter conducts a Physical description, Stream flow analysis, and chemical profile on three sites on the Cabin Branch. We can provide on-hands training for these three modules as well as loaning you the SOS test equipment and supplies. Please contact the SOS Coordinator at the bottom of this page for assistance.
The Chapter also conducts biological monitoring for school groups. We collect and identify macro-invertebrates as proxy indicators for non-point source pollution in the Cabin Branch watershed. We also have a number of dip nets and seine nets to engage your youth group and adult volunteers.
The Lois Green-Sligo Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America will have a Save Our Streams (SOS) monitoring event on Sunday, 15 September 2019, starting at 4:30 PM, at the Watkins Mill Avenue Bridge (just look for the brand-new Cabin Branch Watershed signs!) in Montgomery Village. Chapter “Ikes” are invited to learn how to do SOS stream site Physical Description, Stream Velocity and Chemical Analysis for their own stream sites.
This event will be held with the Covenant United Methodist Church Youth Group of Montgomery Village. A stream cleanup will also be held to celebrate the start of National Estuaries Week https://estuaries.org/get-involved/new/. Trash bags and gloves will be provided. All trash and stream debris will be placed on the side of the road for pickup by our Chapter strategic partner (Montgomery County Parks and Planning) as part of their Cabin Branch Stream Valley Park.
Questions for this event should be directed to the Chapter SOS Coordinator Bill Roberts at email@example.com or his home phone of 301-977-3025.
