Sometimes it's not worth the effort. It's just a jigsaw puzzle, not a pet.
While many puzzles can be saved, sometimes the effort isn't worth it, especially if there are multiple missing or severely damaged pieces. Here are some ways to let it go:
Repurpose: Consider using the remaining pieces for craft projects (like coasters, jewelry, or wall art).
Trading Groups: If part of a puzzle trading group, tell others if a puzzle is incomplete; some puzzlers enjoy the challenge of filling gaps with DIY solutions.
Toss It. Recycle or toss it in the trash.
Donation: Avoid donating puzzles with many missing pieces, as this can be frustrating for others. If you must donate, mark an X on the image over the missing pieces, make a note on the box, and enclose a note about the missing pieces.
Crafty puzzlers may enjoy making intricate repairs and replacement pieces. However, if you are not artistic, the final result may not be pleasing to see. When a puzzle has lived its life, let it go!
