Home / Centre Password
At Centre, you will be required to change your password every 365 days. You will not be allowed to use a previous password (within the last year) and your new password will require a combination of special characters, letters and numbers. Your Centre College password must only be used for Centre College. Using this password elsewhere puts our system at risk if the password is compromised on another system. Access to systems and applications is primarily done through the Microsoft Entra Single Sign On (SSO) system.
Users receive e-mail reminders that a password is about to expire beginning 14 days prior to expiration. A password, which remains unchanged for the full 365 days, will expire and require the user to reset it before the user can login. ITS requires passwords be longer than 8 characters and contain a mixture of letters (upper and lower case), numbers, and symbols ($, @, *, etc.). For added security, consider creating a passphrase, or short sentence, as opposed to a password.
ITS also applies Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for all users. Users can validate their access using an Authenticator app, security key, or with a code delivered via phone call, and must set Security questions and/or an alternate email address to be used for self-service password resets.
To begin the process of changing your password, navigate to myaccount.microsoft.com.
Login with your full Centre email (including @centre.edu) and password.
You will be taken to your Account settings page. On this page, click "Update Info" on the Security info card, or "Security info" on the lefthand drop-down menu. You may have to verify your identity using one of your Authentication methods.
Once on the Security info page, click "Change" next to the password sign in option, as shown below.
If you have forgotten your password or it has expired:
Open a web browser.
Go to login.microsoftonline.com.
Enter your Centre email address, including @centre.edu, and click "Next".
Click the “Forgot my password” link under the password input box.
On the "Get back into your account" page, re-enter your email address and complete the captcha by entering the letters and numbers you see on screen. Click "Next".
You will be asked to complete two methods of identity verification. Note that you will need access to the device you have linked to your mobile Authenticator app, or a security key.
After verifying your identity, you will be prompted to create a new password. Please be sure your new password meets the following complexity requirements.
8+ Characters in length
Capital and lowercase letter/s
At least one number
At least one special character
Cannot use your name or commonly used words, such as "password"
For more detailed instructions with visuals, see the document found here. If you cannot access your authenticator application or cannot complete your identity verification for another reason: Please contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@centre.edu or (859) 238-5575. Make sure to include your Centre ID # and a detailed explanation of the issue you are having in the body of the email. We will reach out to you as quickly as possible.
Upon your first login, you will be prompted to set up at least two identity verification methods, one of which must be a mobile authenticator application or a security key. These verification methods are required for account recovery, self-service password resets, as well as logging into Centre systems.
In order to change, add, or remove verification methods from your account after the initial set up, navigate to myaccount.microsoft.com and login with your Centre account, then select "Update Info" on the Security Info tile. You may be asked to further verify your identity by entering a code from your authenticator app, then you will be taken to a page on which you can update your security info and verification methods.
Mobile Authenticator:
For instructions on adding a mobile authenticator application, please refer to the document found at this link.
Alternate Email Address:
Your alternate email address must be a non-Centre address that only you have access to. In order to successfully add an alternate address, you will need to enter the full address into the input box when prompted, then a code will be sent to the address provided. Once you receive the code, our single sign-on service will prompt you to enter it, after which the address will be registered.
Security Questions:
To use security questions as a verification method for your account, you must provide answers for 5 security questions. Note that these answers are not case sensitive, thus TitANic is considered as matching titanic. Note that 3 security questions must be answered correctly when using them for password resets.
As a new user, you should have received a notice from Centre College with your full name, Centre College ID number, account name, and a temporary password. With this, you can set your password using the following procedure.
Open a web browser and go to myaccount.microsoft.com.
Enter the Centre account name provided to you, including "@centre.edu".
Enter the temporary password provided to you and click Next.
Enter the temporary password one more time in the "current password" input box.
Enter a new password into the new password input boxes:
Must be at least 8 characters long
Contain at least one capital A – Z,
At least one lowercase a – z,
At least one number 0 – 9,
And at least one special character !@#$%^*
Click Submit.
Note: You will be asked to set up verification methods for your account. Detailed documentation to assist with this process can be found at this link.
