Cryptomator is a free software program that allows you to encrypt your files and folders located in the cloud. At Centre, you can use Cryptomator to encrypt a folder within OneDrive. Before you get started, please review the Advice before you begin and What you should know sections.
When you are encrypting sensitive data, it is important that you:
Remember your recovery key
Are careful with how you share
Go through Cryptomator to add/remove files to your folder
If you are sharing a OneDrive folder that is encrypted, it is important that everyone who has access to that folder uses Cryptomator before adding additional files or opening files in this folder.
If someone accidentally opens the folder through OneDrive, instead of Cryptomator, or they try accessing, uploading files in this folder, the files will not be readable and all of your data in this folder will be corrupted.
If sharing a folder, you can require a password to open this folder and send that password to those individuals who need access.
ITS will store your recovery key, please contact helpdesk@centre.edu for assistance.
To get started, you must download Cryptomator on all of your devices that you will be using.
