Hour of Code Collaboration

Jolandra White

Hi, my name is Jolandra White. I am the STEAM and Makerspace teacher at Oakdale STEAM Elementary school in Rock Hill, SC. After formally being a a media specialist for 13 years, the maker space initiative was a love I wanted to do more and more with my students. I have been in education for 22 years and love that I can experience and share STEAM with each of my students every day.

Oakdale STEAM Elementary school, grades 4K through 5th grade, focus on the engineering design process to complete problem based learning across the curriculum. Oakdale STEAM Elementary School ensures that ALL students are empowered to think critically, collaborate, and become lifelong learners in a positive learning environment.

During Computer science week, the student were exposed to a week long coding experience in which they participated in coding plugged and unplugged to develop a greater knowledge of code. We color coded with 4K but dove right into drag and drop coding using code.org with our Kindergartners through 5th grade.
