I currently work online with struggling readers for various charter schools in Southern California. Over the summer of 2026, I learned about an online professional development conference through the Science of Reading Podcast. I attended their Science of Reading Summit though Amplify: Science of Reading Amplify . One of the courses was on Morphology. After I purchased the pdf, I was able to start implementing the skill during my reading lessons with the help of AI.
Never before has the breakdown of multisyllabic words been more accessible since AI technology came into play this year. Instead of simply having a student sound out each syllable, define the word, and move on; I am helping them break down each word into its constituent parts so that they can apply what they know about each morpheme to new words. This would not be possible without the fast response of AI during a reading lesson. If I had to go look for a breakdown on an unexpected word, the student would lose momentum and comprehension about the passage. My students are keeping a notebook of all the words that they have broken down for later reference. This notebook will help them througout their educational journey.
During the winter of 2026 I attended the OCCUE Orange County Computer Using Educators conference. Once of my favorite presenters is Jennifer Robers of Lit & Tech. Since the conference, I have been in touch with Mrs. Roberts and she has been available to answer my technology questions regarding Language Arts.
