Ironhawk Battalion is one of the few units that were awarded the honor unit with distinction, which represents a yellow star, this award was given from the All American 4th Brigade Cadet Command for the battalion's selected cadets knowledge of the National Chain of Command, the perfection of their uniform, and their perseverance in times of difficulty.

After 6 years of service, Ironhawk Battalion will now retire its Virginia State Flag, the flag will now be displayed in Hayfield's JROTC exhibit in the main High School hallway
