Painting 2
This semester course provides the continuing student with an increased level of independent discovery and production in a variety of paint media, including the study of oils. Emphasis is placed on relevant and authentic personal expression through the investigation of themes, concepts, and contemporary approaches. Development of a website serves as the students digital portfolio.
Prerequisite: Painting 1

Acrylic Grisaille method—black and white monochromatic painting with thin color glazes on top.

Oils: technique sampler—chiaroscuro & alla prima. Students have several small assignments to complete leading up to a realistic oil painting. The technique sampler helps them to get acquainted with the medium of oils and it's limitations.
Watercolor skin tones exercise, which leads up to a narrative portrait painting.
