Painting 1
This semester course provides the student with introductory painting experiences using professional grade paint media and associated tools and surfaces. Students will experience classical training with contemporary approaches in acrylic and watercolor. Emphasis will be placed on personal discovery and expression. Students will also have a living painter research project.

Value scales and spheres help students get acquainted with the specific paint media and establish a variety of tones. Soft transitions between tones on the spheres help students learn soft brush strokes that help model a 3-dimensional form.

Color wheels—acrylic. Using two different groups of primary colors. The benefit of painting color wheels is to instill a sense of color mixing using different primary colors.
