Recently, Romeo, CEO of the Ipswich Romanian Community, gave an interview to the Ipswich Star about the city of Ipswich’s development strategy for the next 10 years, as part of Ipswich’s Culture of City proposal for 2029.

Romeo said:

“I am from the Romanian community in Ipswich. First of all, today was not about ‘permission’ to participate, but about all the people proud of their heritage who offered to be a part of it.”

We would like to thank Romeo, CEO of Ipswich Romanian Community for his continued involvement in the development of the Romanian community in Ipswich and Suffolk, MP Jack Abbott and his entire team for their support, Gareth Thomas MP for his initiative, and Tessa Dunlop and the entire Romanian GCSE Campaign Group team for their work in promoting this important cause.

The possibility for Romanian students in the UK to be able to choose Romanian as an optional GCSE exam would represent an important milestone for our community.

For this to become a reality, it is essential that we demonstrate that there is interest and support from the Romanian community.

2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Suffolk-born artist John Constable (1776-1837), who would go on to become one of Britain’s most important painters.

To commemorate his life and work, Colchester + Ipswich Museum presents Constable 250, a programme of exhibitions and activities.

We invite you to join our programme of family events.

Explore Constable’s life and work and the views that inspired his most famous landscapes through tours, workshops and walks

All events are free, but booking is required through the Ipswich Romanian Community @ipswichromaniancommunity_irc as places are limited.

Please note that some events include a return minibus journey to Flatford.

We are excited to be working alongside the Integrated Neighbourhood Team, Ipswich Community Media, Community Praxis, and other local organisations, in close collaboration with local authorities, on the Rope Walk Project.

With the support and involvement of the local community, our shared goal is to improve the area, engage with residents, and identify key challenges together. This project is currently in the development stage, and as we continue to listen and learn from the community, we will adapt and grow based on emerging needs.

As part of TEF – The Educational Festival, the Westgate Voices Media Project was launched in Ipswich, marking the beginning of a powerful new initiative for creativity and community engagement.

This innovative platform offered young people and community members the opportunity to explore voice, identity, and storytelling through media. Whether participants were passionate about podcasting, public speaking, or audio production, the project encouraged everyone to be the voice who matters – fii vocea care contează.

Throughout the project, participants shared ideas, raised awareness, and connected with others through sound, building confidence and strengthening community expression.

The Ipswich Romanian Community (IRC), is excited to announce The Educational Festival (TEF) – a brand-new event aiming to highlight and celebrate educational, cultural, and community values in Ipswich.

Building on the success of Suffolk's first Romanian Film Festival, TEF will bring together local organisations, educators, and creatives to make learning more visible, accessible, and engaging for all ages and backgrounds.
