(except for Round 4)
9 β 9:45 AMββ >> ARTIST REGISTRATION (& PAIRING for ROUND 001)
Artists are encouraged to arrive early to register and pay, get paired and set-up. There will be a limited number of easels available for rental.
10 β 11:30 AMββ >>ββ ROUND 001 β THE FACE-OFF
Beginning at 10 AM SHARP, the 50 artists, who have already been randomly paired with another artist, create a Portrait of their teammate. A strategic balance of being both artist and model will commence. At the end of the first session, the artists will put down their tools, hang their work, and vacate the room for their first break. The artwork will then be judged and the field of 50 artists reduced to 20. NOTE: the pairings are not being reduced by 1/2, the entire group of 50 will be viewed together.
Throughout the day, all 50 paintings will be available to the public for purchase via silent auction with a reserve price of *$100 each.
11:30 β 12:45 AM // LUNCH BREAK & JURY SELECTIONS (50 >> 20)
1 β 2:40 PMββ >>ββ ROUND 002 β THE PATRONS
For the low low LOW investment of *$300, ten patrons will model or select someone they (presumably) love to model for two artists. The commissioning patrons have previously paid and the sitter completed a questionnaire which is given to the artists to provide them with a sense of their muse's interests, hobbies, and personality. The artists should incorporate this information creatively into the portrait. At the end of the session, the 20 works are hung by the artists and judged during the break; 10 proceed. The Patrons may take home both portraits at the end of the event.
*This round will be 90 minutes + 10, due to breaks for the models.
2:40 - 2:50 PM // ARTISTS BREAK & JURY SELECTIONS (20 >> 10)
3 β 4:40 PMββ >>ββ ββROUND 003 β LOCAL CELEBRITY
5 infamous characters from the area will model for the remaining 10 artists who will again be randomly paired. Over the next 90 minutes, the artists will attempt to get to know their model as they capture what they learn in 2D. At the end of the session, the portraits are hung by the artists, judged by the jury and the field reduced to 4. All 10 pieces are added to the silent auction with a reserve price of *$100 each.
*This round will be 90 minutes + 10, due to breaks for the models.
4:40 β 4:50 PM // ARTISTS BREAK & JURY SELECTIONS for QUARTERFINALS (10 >> 4)
5 β 5:35 PMββ >>ββ ββROUND 004 β FIGURE IT OUT
Four artists get a chance to flex a different set of muscles using the materials and surface of their choice in two quick-fire rounds of "drawing". The semi-finalists draw straws to select their positions working from two models. First, they'll address the (clothed) models for a 10-minute pose. There will be a quick break, and then they'll dive right back in for a 20-minute pose. At the end of the round, the four longer-pose portraits will be hung and two artists selected for THE FINALS; all four paintings are included in the silent auction.
*This round will be 30 minutes + 5, due to a break for the models.
5:35 - 6:45 PM // DINNER BREAK & JURY SELECTIONS (4 >> 2)
7 β 8:30 PM >>ββ ββROUND 005: SELFIE (THE FINALS!)
The two Finalists are each provided a large mirror; they will set their own lights and props, and paint their own image for the last 90 minutes. At 9:30 PM the artists will put down their tools, the pieces hung.
8:30 β 8:35 PM // JURY DELIBERATION
8:35 PM >>ββ ββAWARD CEREMONY
A CHAMPION will be BELTED and CROWNED and awarded a $1,000 CASH MONEY PRIZE. Following the crowning ceremony, the two paintings will be available for purchase for the last 15 minutes of silent auction bidding.
The reserve price for the 2 final pieces will be *$200.
