Stijn Berbé

Conductor Stijn Berbé received his first trumpet music training at De Kunsthumaniora in Antwerp, Belgium.

Stijn switched to althorn and studied with Bart Van Neyghem, Frans Violet and Nick Ost and learned his profession as a solo hornist in the Brass Band Willebroek. With the Brass Band Willebroek, he won the European Championship in Brass in 2006 and 2007. As an althorn soloist he has won the national soloist competition in Belgium several times. He has also won the soloist award at the Brass Band Festival Leeuwarden in the Netherlands and was invited to the semi-finals of the European soloist competition for brass in Glasgow.

Stijn has experience as a board member of the Brass Band Willebroek for many years as well.

In 2009, Stijn played with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Mariss Jansons in Schostakovich's opera Lady Macbeth from Mtsensk.

Currently, he is an althorn soloist for the instrument brand Sterling, a brass teacher at Vestnes Kulturskole and conductor for Vestnes Skolekorps, Åse Skolekorps as well as Aalesund Ungdomsmusikkorps in Norway. During his spare time he plays solo horn in the Molde Brass Band.
