Michelle Yarnell graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Masters of Arts in Teaching from Kaplan University, Illinois, in September 2013. Prior to that she studied at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Here she gained her Bachelors of Music with Honors in Bass Clarinet in July 2011 as a Derek Ogston Music Scholar. During her time at the university she received her Kodaly certification and became president of the wind band under the guidance of leaders in the field: Lt. Robert Owen and Prof. Paul Mealor.
Throughout her professional teaching career, Michelle has been active within International Schools. During her studies she was continuously involved in the music program at the International School of Aberdeen, Scotland. From August 2011 she was the band intern at The American International School of Muscat, Oman. After an academic year, she moved back to her home country of The Netherlands to teach Middle School Band at The American School of The Hague from 2013-2015. During her time in the Netherlands, she was also co-director of many musicals. In August 2015, she briefly moved out of the International School circuit to teach elementary school music and middle school band at Next Generation School in Illinois, USA.
Currently Michelle teaches PYP performing arts, MYP music, and is the band director at Ålesund International School, Norway. She also teaches instrumental music and bands in the wider local community. Alongside, she is a woodwind instructor and performer. She also remains an active participant in the Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS).
